What to expect on the day of treatment

How is CK performed?

CK is carried out under topical anaesthesia. Your eyelids will be gently held open and anaesthetic drops used to numb the eye. You will be asked to look at a central light, which positions your eye for the procedure.

A huge advance in accuracy of CK treatment and a principal reason for our confidence with this technique has been the development of the treatment template. Until recently, the eight CK spots had to be applied using the probe “free-hand”. Whilst placing the spots is relatively easy, achieving equal pressure at each point is more difficult.

This has been solved with the new template, which is a plastic suction device used to hold the cornea, guide the probe exactly into position and produce eight identical CK spots.

Each spot takes only 0.6 seconds to perform. The procedure will be painless, but you may be aware of a feeling of pressure in the eye.
