Simon is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with a special interest in oculoplastic surgery. He graduated from St Mary’s Hospital Medical School in 1999 and completed his higher specialist ophthalmology training in Wessex in 2010. Following this he completed a prestigious Fellowship in Oculoplastics at the Sydney Eye Hospital, Australia. He has been a full time consultant at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth since 2012. In this role he performs both intraocular and oculoplastic surgery and often collaborates with dermatologists as well as maxilofacial and ENT surgeons in the management and reconstruction of patients with head and neck cancers that involve the eyelids.

Simon is regularly involved in teaching ophthalmic trainees, juniors doctors and medical staff and has organised courses to develop teaching skills. He has also been on numerous trips to an eye hospital in Burma, where he has performed both oculoplastic and cataract surgery as part of an overseas charity programme.

Memberships: General Medical Council, British Medical Association, Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, British Oculoplastic Surgical Society.

Outside Sapphire? Simon has a young family and loves spending time with them. He also loves sport and in his younger days was an accomplished rugby player, he now enjoys running, skiing and triathlon when he can find the time.
